Main Event: Feijao (c) vs Hendo
The aging and inconsistant Dan Henderson has become the Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion. And it only happened after a failed attempt at a more difficult belt. Henderson dominated Cavalcante in the stand-up and took the Brazilian down at will. Feijao simply had no answer for the former Pride Welterweight and Middleweight champion.
So, who is next in line for the title? Nobody, Strikeforce has no fighters...there is nothing left for Hendo to do in Strikeforce and he's only been there for three fights. For having a record of 2-1 in an organization, it's pretty impressive that Henderson has no competition. Or is it?
...No
The Ladies: Marloes Coenen (c) vs Liz Carmouche
Once again two extremely talented fighters have gone to war with nobody caring. Thank you Strikeforce. There is no doubt in my mind that Coenen and Carmouche are the top fighters in their weight class and deserve the respect on par with their male counterparts. But, that's just not gonna happen.
You see, Strikeforce doesn't know what promotion is. While we see UFC promotions everywhere from ESPN and SpikeTV to YouTube, Strikeforce advertises almost exclusively on Showtime....which is a terrible way to bring new viewers to your event.
Anyways, the fight. AWESOME! Carmouche dominates a la Chael Sonnen en route to an easy victory, but gets beat in the end. As good as it was, nobody watched it.
Time to Retire: Tim Kennedy vs Melvin Manhoef
Melvin Manhoef will never get any better. He will never evolve as a fighter and he.....who wait, he isn't even a fighter. We've redefined the term 'fighter' and you have to have a ground game to be considered a fighter. Manhoef ain't a fighter, he's a kickboxer. And he isn't even good at that!
Manhoef has gone 0-5 in his last 5 fights, whether kickboxing or MMA. This guy just doesn't know when to retire. He clearly has two choices, stick to losing at kickboxing, or retire altogether. MMA isn't for him anymore.
Tim Kennedy on the other hand gets no glory in winning. He ducked a top contender in Jason Miller to fight Bumzilla. He dodged a hard fight for what shouldn't have been sanctioned due to a non-competitive nature of the fight.
Wow Strikeforce, you really know what you're doing.
In Good News
Jorge Gurgel got a submission victory.
And the WEC re-runs were awesome! AGAIN!
