After going 1-4 in his last 5 fights, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Jorge Gurgel finds himself back in the win column tonight in a quick finish over Billy Vaughan.
Gurgel submitted Vaughan in just 44 seconds with a guillotine choke. For such a highly touted submission expert, this is Gurgel's first submission victory in 6 years. You see, it is common place for Gurgel to completely disown his Jiu-Jitsu in favor of a striking exchange. The problem for Gurgel is that he can't strike to save his life.
His bread and butter has always been jiu-jitsu but he apparently hates it. He has taught high-level fighter, Rich 'Ace' Franklin, whom he was also featured with on 'The Ultimate Fighter.' Gurgel fought in the UFC from 2006-2008 with notable opponents Cole Miller and Aaron Riley on his resume (as defeats).
Let's just hope that Gurgel can stick with his gameplan and rack up a few good wins.
