Rankings: Top 5 Middleweights

1. Anderson Silva

The long-reigning UFC Middleweight Champion has never lost in the Octagon and the last loss on his record came via disqualification to UFC contender Yushin Okami. Proving through a 5 round war with Chael Sonnen (ending via triangle armbar) and a ninja-esque front kick to the face against Vitor Belfort that he is the #1 or 2 pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

2. Chael Sonnen

The American wrestler showed through 5 rounds of domination over Anderson Silva (before succumbing to a submission) that he has what it takes to beat the best of the best and become Champion. Through personal adversity this Middleweight contender has made his way to the top of the heap and even after losing to the Champion, retained his spot as the #1 contender in the UFC's Middleweight division.

3. Yushin Okami

After winning the most important fight of his career agaisnt Nate Marquardt, Okami was passed over for a title shot by Vitor Belfort. Being the last man to defeat the current UFC Middleweight Champion, Okami will have to find something else to do as the Champ's next fight is to be against Welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre. Perhaps a fight with Michael Bisping or Vitor Belfort would do the Japanese star some good.

4. Vitor Belfort

Coming off an unimpressive performance agaisnt Anderson Silva, Belfort has some room to make up. Once arguably the greatest fighter in the world, Belfort hasn't shown the same fire he had before the loss of his sister. We can only hope that the Phenom can get back in the cage as quickly as possible.

5. Jason Miller

Most recently beating an aging Sakuraba and heavily campaigning for a fight with Strikeforce Welterweight Champion and thug Nick Diaz, Jason 'Mayhem' Miller is having a hard time finding fights. A recent bout with Tim Kennedy being scrapped has put Mayhem in a state of flux. Can he find a fight in Japan? If not, I don't expect to see him compete until the end of the year at the earliest.
