This week in the world's premiere mixed martial arts organization, there have been multiple fights and events announced.
Former Champs Collide
Recently dethroned UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua will take on Ultimate Fighter 1 winner and former Champion Forrest Griffin. This fight will be a rematch of the two's battle at UFC 76 back in 2007. Though already seasoned veterans in their own respect, 4 years of competition changes fighters in a lot of ways.
In the first fight, Shogun Rua was rebounding from knee surgery and getting his first taste of fighting in a cage, as opposed to the Japanese ring. That North American inexperience paired with recent injury made for a very underwhelming performance by Shogun Rua.
Now that both fighters are performing at the highest levels in their career, expect an exciting fight between two living legends.
This fight is expected to take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Middleweight Title on the Line
UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva will finally defend his title against Yushin Okami.
After Yushin Okami defeated Nate Marquardt at UFC 122, UFC President Dana White crowned Okami the #1 contender, but that didn't happen. Instead, Vitor Belfort got the nod to have his shot at Middleweight gold. However, Belfort's Championship dreams were cut short when Anderson Silva front kicked him into outer space to recalim his title.
Now, it's Okami's turn to take on the long reigning Champion. Silva has not lost a fight since before entering the UFC; and the last person to defeat him was...Yushin Okami. A dominating and powerful wrestler with devastating top control has been exactly the style to give the current Champion headaches.
But can history repeat itself?
Marquardt at Welterweight
As previously reported, UFC Middleweight contender Nate Marquardt is makig the jump to Welterweight. He now has an opponent.
Marquardt will take on Anthony Johnson at UFC on Versus 4. Expect constant news reports on weight cutting as Marquardt has never fought at 170 lbs and Rumble Johnson has continuous and epic problems cutting to 170 lbs.
