UFC News: March 20, 2011 Edition

Following UFC 128, there have been many revelations in the world's premier mixed martial arts organization

Jon Jones

Newly crowned UFC Light Heavyweight Champion has been slated to fight former teammate Rashad Evans. Before the young Jones dethroned Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua to become the youngest Champion in UFC history, many fans were clammoring for Evans and Jones to face eachother. After numerous interviews, Jones intiated a rivalry between the two Jackson trained fighters that has ultimately led to an end of their friendship.

Additionally, Greg Jackson, the former trainer of Evans, stated in an interview with http://www.mmafighting.com/ post fight at UFC 128 that he would not train either fighter for their scheduled bout and wanted "no part of this fight."

Nate Marquardt Moves to Welterweight

With less than stellar performances in his last Octagon showings, going 2-2 in his last four fights, former top contender Nate "The Great" Marquardt expressed his desire to move to the 170 lb division. While Nate is a very lean and powerful Middleweight, he believes that with his new diet and training regiment, the extra 15 lb cut will not be a problem.

What may be a problem is Georges St. Pierre, the current Welterweight Champion and training partner of Marquardt. When asked about meeting his teammate in the Octagon for a title shot, Marquardt neither turned the idea down, nor confirmed it.

Cro Cop Cut

Pride Fighting Championship's 2006 Open Weight Grand Prix Winner, Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic has been cut by the UFC. After being knocked-out and recieving a cheap shot by Brendan Schaub, it was revealed by UFC President Dana White that the future of the head-kicking Croatian would not be in the UFC.

With consecutive knock-out losses to middle-of-the-pack opponents, this decision by the UFC is an obvious gesture to push Cro Cop in to retirement. And this isn't a bad idea. No longer a relevant heavyweight, Cro Cop has lost the mental edge more-so than the physical. Though he is a strong but small heavyweight, Filipovic has been unable to pull the trigger when faced with adversity.

Goodbye Mirko
